Top Hygiene Tips Children Should Follow at School

When it comes to hygiene, one place that needs to be free of germs and bacteria as much as possible is in schools. Everything from the janitorial supplies to the school toilets needs to be spotless.

However, excellent hygiene and cleanliness isn’t something that can be achieved once and then be left at that; it’s something that needs to be constantly maintained, so here are some top hygiene tips that children should follow when they are at school.

Make Sure to Check Their Fingernails

Fingernails are a breeding ground for bacteria; from food, playing outside, and other external sources. Because children use their hands every day, the germs that reside under their nails can easily be transferred to their eyes, nose, and mouth, which can cause infection or even illness. Because of this, make sure that their fingernails are clipped every week.

Maintain Oral Hygiene

This is something that every child should learn at an early age. Proper brushing and flossing are skills that can only be improved by practice. With children at young ages eager to investigate objects with their mouths, it is important that their oral hygiene is maintained.

Ensure They Have Handkerchiefs

When children sneeze or cough, they are taught to cover their mouth and face to prevent germs from spreading across the room or wherever they are. However, the germs are now on their hands and this can spread to chairs, other people, and food.

In this scenario, a handkerchief is a great asset, as it is can be used to cover a child’s mouth and face when sneezing/coughing to prevent the spread of bacteria. Alternatively, having tissues handy is also a must!

Clean the Classroom Regularly

This is a priority for cleaners and possibly even the teachers. Regular cleaning of classroom accessories and furnitures, such as chairs, tables, and other important fixtures, will ensure a bacteria-free learning and teaching environment. As well as this, ensure that the classrooms are properly vacuumed every day, to get rid of any bacteria lying on the floor.

Hand-Washing is an Absolute Must

Hand washing is a fundamental part of great hygiene. In order to eliminate the contraction of germs after playing outside, being in contact with animals on a day trip, or with someone that is already ill, it is vital for children to clean their hands thoroughly with washroom consumables and ensure every part of their hands are clean, from the nails to in between the fingers.
