Cleaning Connect+ Information Hub

Running an efficient cleaning operation is far more than removing bacteria from surfaces and scrubbing graffiti off walls.

In this edition of cleaning connect, we share four key areas you need to consider to ensure your cleaning function remains safe and efficient. We break these down into 3 key areas: Manage, Measure & Control.

Managing Your Storage

A tidy workplace, a tidy mind!

Managing the storage of your cleaning supplies is essential to achieving an efficient cleaning operation. Here are some questions you can ask to make sure you are choosing the right storage option for your needs...

  • Is the material Hazardous?
  • What size are the items we need to store?
  • What is the shape of the items?
  • How heavy are they?
  • How frequently will they need to be accessed?

So, now you've answered these questions, here are a couple of examples of proper storage for your supplies.

Is it time for a COSHH Cabinet?

If the answer to that first question is 'yes', then COSHH storage is a necessary addition to your storage facilities.

A COSHH cabinet is a storage cabinet that is used for substances hazardous to health under COSHH regulations.

Such substances can include chemicals, gases and dust. However, this also extends to products like, paint, solvents, varnishes and bleach.

We have a range of storage options for hazardous supplies!

Wall Mounted Storage

Another popular storage option for the standard 1L bottle is our 4 x 1-litre bottle holder, perfect for keeping your workstations tidy and sanitised.

It's quick and easy to install with pre-set fixing holes, with a fixing kit included. Plus, with its mild steel construction and white powder-coat epoxy finish, you can be assured of its durability and longevity.

Measuring Your Usage

Measuring and controlling the usage of cleaning supplies is essential for promoting sustainability, ensuring safety, and creating a healthier environment in our schools and educational institutions. Here are three reasons why:

Promotes sustainability - By measuring and controlling the usage of cleaning supplies, schools and educational institutions can promote sustainability and reduce environmental impact and costs.

Reduces chemical exposure - Overexposure to cleaning chemicals can have negative effects on the health of students, teachers, and staff. Measuring and controlling the usage of cleaning supplies can help minimise exposure to harmful chemicals and promote a healthier environment.

Cost savings - Measuring and controlling the usage of cleaning supplies can help schools save money by reducing the costs associated with purchasing and disposing of unused products. It also minimises the need for additional cleaning staff, leading to significant cost savings.

To help you measure your usage, we recommend taking a look at pumps for 5L containers. These include a 30ml shot, which ensures you receive a consistent dose every time. If you're still using chemicals, disinfectants, and other liquids directly from the container, it's time to consider controlling your usage to promote sustainability and safety.

Control your users' consumption

Our third and final tip for managing an efficient cleaning operation is controlling your users' consumption. There are many reasons why this is an integral part of your cleaning operation.

Cost Control: Monitoring the usage of consumable products such as paper towels, toilet paper, soap, and other hygiene products is critical to maintaining a balanced budget. By controlling usage, the school can save money by reducing wastage and ensuring that the products are being used efficiently.

Maintenance: Consumable products like paper towels and toilet paper can cause clogging and blockages in pipes if not disposed of correctly. Regularly monitoring usage and ensuring that only the required amount is being used can help prevent plumbing issues, which can be costly to fix and may cause disruptions to school operations.

Hygiene and Sanitation: Maintaining high levels of hygiene and sanitation in washrooms is critical to the health and safety of students and staff. By controlling the usage of consumable products, the school can ensure that adequate supplies are available for proper hand hygiene and cleanliness, which is essential in preventing the spread of illness and infection.
